Busted
Genre: Paranormal
Friday January 13 2012
Jane asked “Who moved this statue?”
“Not me, mum!” said Jill. “I’m off to school. See ya!”
“You mean the statue whose head you say is aging?” said John “I didn’t move it”
“Don’t be sarcastic.”
April 13
“I’m sure this wasn’t here yesterday.”
Jill looked at her mother and refrained from rolling her eyes.
John, looking over the newspaper, gave his wife a look.
“Don’t even say a word!” she said.
July 13th before dawn
Jane opened her eyes and found the statue next to her bed.
The now much older statue suddenly grinned.

Why don’t we ever sit under that coconut tree?
My grandfather fell silent, then said:
Like many fathers, I had great hopes and dreams for our first child. I myself still had dreams of traveling the seas. One day, your grandma asked me to look after our son as she went to the market. I carried him to the beach and we lay under that tree.
The sound of a passing ship brought me to my feet. I gazed at the kind of ship I hoped to sail with one day.
The wind blew, a coconut fell, my dreams died.

Last week at the time I think the prompt from our Great Leader went live, I was in the labour ward delighted at the safe delivery of our son Giovanni. You can read about him on my new blog http://theGioChronicles.wordpress.com (Link opens in new window/tab).
About Friday Fictioneers
Friday Fictioneers is a group that works as follows:
Every week you get a picture.
Prompted by that picture, you write a piece of fiction that is 100 words long (or as close as you can get).
You add a link to your story on the Fictioneers page, and read the (awesome) stories by the other Friday Fictioneers.
Feel free to join us! Everyone is welcome.
Abraham, that was later than usual. The first story I like a lot. and the title goes so well with the story.
The second story has a real twist at the end. that I like. I think you need to do some text formatting on it has a few strange line breaks.
Thanks.
I have formatted now:-)
Yes, I am terribly late 🙂
Showing up late to the game…..you have some odd line breaks like bjorn said….I enjoyed both of these stories. The title for the first one is great!
Tom
Enjoyed both of them. Better late than never 🙂
Read this after writing my comment. Boomie and I, like all great minds, think alike 😉
True 🙂
Both stories are good Abraham, and very different from each other.
As they say “better late than never!” 🙂
Hi Abraham. Enjoyed both of these, although maybe enjoy is not the right word to use in connection with the second one – very sad. Well done.
Well done on both, Abraham. I guess a new son is an acceptable excuse for being late. 🙂 Congratulations! I hope both your wife and son are doing well.
janet
Yes, we are all doing well.
Thanks for dropping in
First of all, congratulations on Giovanni’s arrival! Wishing him a long and happy life. The “last week” story is well done, though sad (I guess Grandpa and Grandma eventually had other children, or they wouldn’t be grandparents, but what an awful thing to happen.) The statue story is wonderfully creepy – makes my hair stand on end!
Thank you very much! 🙂
Dear Abraham,
I felt your absence last week. I’m overjoyed to hear of your son. Like Janet said, you’re most definitely excused.
I like your stories. If I miss my guess, the second one has a bit of an historical feel to it. A sad one.
shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you, Great Leader!
Congrats on the birth of your son 🙂 I enjoyed both stories
Very nice story telling!
Thanks!
i’m sure glad you caught up cos i loved that second story… a sad, very human tale. and that first story, beyond creepy! makes one wonder too what the statue wants from the woman.. and why he’s doing it.
and ohmygod, Congratulations!!! ^^
enjoyed reading both..first one scary and the second one moving. Cheers, Nightlake
Congratulations Abraham! Your stories are welcome and just as we expected from such a good wordsmith.
Thank you for your compliments, Sir.
Spooky, I loved it.
Hi Abraham
I really liked both these stories. The first sent shivers down my spine. The second had a fabulous (sad) last line. Excellent 🙂
Congratulations on your son! 😀
I love both stories. ‘Busted’ sent a chill down my spine and kept me at the edge of my seat. I like the idea of making in the form of a diary/ log; it helped to make it more sinister somehow, well done. And again, all the best for your fatherhood.
Thank you very much, Sandra.
I looked for dates that were Friday the 13th 🙂
Goodness, I didn’t notice that! (I read it quite late at night) Now I love the story even more!
