I really liked the service yesterday. I was not supposed to be at that particular service though. The Young Adults of ICC were having the second Young Adults Sunday at our second Church location. I was supposed to be there, but I woke up too late to make it in good time.
So I went to my regular location, and was quite early for the 12:15 service. I was delighted to see Mama Clive approaching. She normally sits downstairs, and I normally sit upstairs. I was willing to sit downstairs with her. We sat upstairs.
The Youth Fellowship (FrontRunnerz) was running the service. I enjoyed the worship, especially singing the old-school worship song You Are My Hiding Place. Sometimes I feel we have too many new songs and too few of the old.
There was a play reflecting the bar culture in Nairobi and the influences on the youth. It was quite hilarious. Pastor Tony Kiama (who was the barman in the play) swung into his sermon. As usual, he was blunt and down to earth. He told us how he sometimes goes to visit bereaved families and sees the beaten look on the faces of parents who have just lost a loved one, say in a drunken driving accident.
With the knowledge of their child’s demise, which they now have, if these partents had been told the previous night that your child is drinking in a bar at XYZ, what would they have done? posed the pastor. They would have walked if necessary to that bar and carried their child out.
He also spoke of how ladies sit with their children watching Tyra, and her gay co-workers. BVy failing to comment on or correct the impression given by such shows that it is okay to be gay, thses parents inadvertently affirm such abomination.
We have an awesome responsibility to bring up our children in a way that will keep them from the great dangers and negative influences in the world. May God help us bring up our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
